Dr. Jose Baselga, MD
Professor of Medicine and Chairman
Vall d’Hebron University Hospital

Dr. Gabriel Hortobagyi, M.D.
Professor of Medicine and Chairman
Breast Medical Oncology Program
The University of Texas
MD Anderson Cancer Center
Houston, TX

As a member of the M.D. Anderson faculty since 1976, Dr. Hortobagyi has been instrumental in developing combination chemotherapy for previously inoperable breast tumors and for improving multidisciplinary treatment for patients with all stages of breast cancer, including advanced disease. He and his colleagues have conducted extensive clinical trials that have been widely incorporated into standard practices for managing breast cancer and have contributed to increased survival for many patients.

Dr. John Mendelsohn, MD
President
MD Anderson Cancer Center

Dr. David Sidransky, M.D.
Director of Head and Neck Cancer Research
Professor of Otolaryngology, Oncology, Pathology, Cellular and Molecular Medicine and Urology
Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland

Dr. Sidransky was on CNN’s list of America’s Best in Science and Medicine. In addition to being the first to describe a genetic mutation for colon cancer, Dr. Sidransky's focus is on identifying genetic changes in human cancers and developing tests to detect these changes as tumor markers in bodily fluids such as urine and blood. These molecular markers help detect tumors early when they can be cured by simple surgery. In addition, Sidransky writes that "these markers are helping us predict which chemotherapy is likely to work on a particular patient's tumor and allow us to follow new molecular therapies with great precision."

Dr. Yosef Yarden, Ph.D.
Dean of the Feinberg Graduate School
Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel

Dr. Yarden has served as the Director of the M.D. Moross Institute for Cancer Research, the Vice President for Academic Affairs at the Weizmann Institute of Science and the Dean, Faculty of Biology at the Weizmann Institute of Science where he is also a Professor in the Department of Biological Regulation. He serves on numerous national and international boards and the scientific advisory committees of several organizations, both academic and commercial, including serving as a Council Member of the European Association for Cancer Research. Dr. Yarden has received several awards and honors including the John F. Kennedy Prize for excellence in Ph.D. studies, the Chaim Weizmann Fellowship for postdoctoral research, the Andre Lwoff Prize from the Pasteur Institute and Hoechst-Behring, as well as an invited member of the American Association for Cancer Research and elected member of the Asia-Pacific International Molecular Biology Network. He received his BSc. in geology and biology from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and his Ph.D in Immunology from the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot. He completed postdoctoral research in molecular biology at Genentech Inc. in San Francisco and in oncogenesis at the Whitehead Institute in Cambridge.

Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina

Dr. Lyerly is a member of NCI’s Translational Working Group and  is one of the originators of the workshop "Accelerating Anticancer Agent Development and Validation" To Dr. Lyerly, “ the new era of drug development requires us to reinvent the way we perceive, pursue, and communicate about these opportunities." The George Barth Geller Professor for Research in Cancer and an experienced surgical oncologist, Lyerly also holds faculty appointments in Duke’s pathology and immunology departments. As director of the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, he is working to create the nation's best environment for bringing scientific discoveries rapidly into clinical practice.

Dr. Hidalgo received his medical degree from the University Navarra Medical School in Pamplona, Spain, and his doctorate degree from the University of Autonoma in Madrid, Spain. In 1997, he began his career as a clinical research fellow at the Cancer Therapy and Research Center in San Antonio, Texas, where he participated in the EORTC/NCI Exchange Fellowship and AACR Young Investigator Fellowship in Clinical Research. He worked as both an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center and as a clinical investigator at the Cancer Therapy and Research Center for two years prior to his current position. He obtained the ASCO Career Development Award in 2001.
