Who is TMD and what experience do
they offer?
The TMD team consists
of experienced scientific and industry
veterans in oncology diagnostics. Each
member has pioneered significant initiatives
in the field of targeted therapy and has
developed an extensive network of
collaborators. The team has a proven record
of novel ideas, first-to-market
accomplishments and a strong understanding
of emerging trends in oncology. Almost all
TMD laboratory personnel have a minimum of
15 years experience and are able to respond
effectively to the needs of clients and
patients. As TMD responds to the dynamic
environment created by advances in targeted
therapy, we are confident that TMD will
continue to attract experienced,
high-integrity and effective industry
leaders.
Dr. Sarah Bacus
President, CEO & Chief Scientific Officer
Dr. Sarah
Bacus founded Targeted Molecular Diagnostics
in January of 2004. In addition, Dr. Bacus
had previously founded Quantitative
Diagnostics Laboratories and co-founded Cell
Analysis Systems, both of which were
successfully acquired by established
diagnostic companies. Dr. Bacus pioneered
the quantitative image analysis processes of
tissue-based cellular diagnostics and is
currently regarded as a world-renown expert
on targeted therapy and diagnostics
development.
She is the author of numerous patents and
peer-reviewed publications covering cell
biology, diagnostics and systems
development. Dr. Bacus has, for more than
two decades, been a prolific researcher and
lecturer in the field of cancer, and
specifically, targeted therapy. Dr. Bacus is
a frequent speaker at international oncology
symposiums such as the American Society of
Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the American
Association of Cancer Research (AACR) and
the European Organization for Research and
Treatment of Cancer (EORTC).
In addition to the roles above, Dr. Bacus
has served the industry in other advisory
and operational roles. These appointments
include adjunct faculty positions at M.D.
Anderson Cancer Center and a board seat of
the prestigious Cancer Research Foundation,
an organization dedicated to funding Phase I
clinical trials. Dr. Bacus has also taken on
several consulting roles with diagnostics
technology and information technology
companies.
Christopher Ung, MS, MBA
Vice President, Business Development &
Marketing
Christopher Ung joined the company in
September 2004. Mr. Ung brings over 14 years
of experience in clinical oncology
diagnostics, business development, sales and
marketing. Since 1997, Mr. Ung has been
immersed in the developing space of targeted
diagnostics. Prior to joining Targeted
Molecular Diagnostics, he worked for
DakoCytomation, the leading developer and
manufacturer of companion diagnostic tests
for targeted therapy.
At DakoCytomation, Mr. Ung spearheaded the
collaboration with Genentech to develop
Herceptest™, the industry’s first companion
diagnostic test for a targeted therapy (Herceptin)
and successfully guided the HercepTest™
assay
to its current position as the leading test
for HER2 assessment. Mr. Ung initiated a
similar development for EGFR pharmDx, the
diagnostic test to identify patients for
treatment with Erbitux (ImClone). Mr. Ung
also served as the chairman of
DakoCytomation’s Pathology Corporate
Business group and was its Director of
Strategic Business Opportunities.
Mr. Ung received his M.S. from University of
California, Berkeley in Organometallic
Chemistry and his MBA from University of
California, Los Angeles.
